David Gross came up with the name, the text, and all the visuals for this title except for the two main characters and their placement. To expedite the process in the face of a tight deadline, Gross asked Jeff Zapata to lay out the figures.

Gross designed the wet magazine in part to mimic "Umbrella" from 1975's 13th series of Wackys. The artist had considered including send-ups of Spider-Man foes The Vulture and The Green Goblin in the background as well as Mysterio and Doctor Octopus, but time pressure prevented it.

The Topps Vault sold the finished art for "Spitter-Man" for $3,801.00 in an eBay auction which ran from July 27 - August 3, 2006.
